Setting correct device mode:<\/h1>\n\n

Do you own a Surfstick Speed<\/strong> from O2 and wonder why it only mounts the image containing the windows drivers instead of being detected as modem? The problem is that you first have to switch the device mode to use it as modem. While openSUSE 11.2 Milestone 8 does that automatically on openSUSE 11.1 it is necessary to install the package hsolinkcontrol<\/a>.\n

Usage:<\/h1>\nTo use the Surfstick Speed<\/strong> on openSUSE < 11.2 the command line program wvdial works very well. On openSUSE 11.2 the networkmanager is a good alternative.\n

1. wvdial:<\/h2>\nTo use the stick with wvdial it is necessary to add a section to the wvdial config file (\/etc\/wvdial.conf):\n

2. KDE network manager<\/h2>\nTo use the stick via the KDE network manager (should work similar on GNOME) just insert the stick and wait until the stick is recognized (you will be notified about that). Just click on the network symbol in the task bar and create a new connection. Insert <\/em>99#<\/strong> as phone number. After setting your APN the connection can be use like any other connection.
