Repairing a Samsung Dryer

Disclaimer

This is not a professional repair instruction. You do everything at your own risk! Opening the dryer may break it! Unplug the dryer before opening it!

Identifying the Problem

My dryer is relatively new. But after some time it started to behave strangely. It stopped drying and claimed the water tank was full. But the tank was definitely empty. Next thing I checked was the codenser. But it looked ok. It was totally clean. Could it be the pump or the floating switch?

Removing the Pump

Back of the Dryer

Inside the hole you have to remove some screws to be able to remove the pump.

After that check that the pump is clean. Be careful when opening it:

Check the green wheel:

In my case the pump was completely clean. So the only part that I hadn’t checked so far was the floating switch.

Checking the Floating Switch

The floating switch indicates whether the pump has to be turned on to pump the condensed water into the water tank. How to check it:

In my case a cheap multimeter was enougth to check the switch:

Actually it turned out that the switch was broken. To find that out you have to measure the resistance of the switch. The resistance should toggle between ~ 0 Ohm and a few Mega Ohm, depending on the switch position. If it doesn’t the switch is definitely broken.

Happy End

I ordered a new switch. Since then the dryer works perfectly đŸ™‚
