After struggling for a while I finally managed to deploy the first OpenJDK/OpenJFX 8 App to the Mac App Store!

Here’s a link to the app: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/vplot/id727109209?l=de&ls=1&mt=12

Please rate it!

The Tutorial Is Coming Soon I promised you a tutorial on how to create a fully functional release build of OpenJDK and OpenJFX. Since the app was just accepted now it will take some time. But it won’t take long. I promise!

[Update 13. Nov. 2013]:

  • Link to the first part of the tutorial: Deploy OpenJFX 8 Apps To The Mac App Store [Part 1]. More will follow soon!

  • Slides from Devoxx 2013: PDF, ODP, PPT

  • Video about VPlot & VRL-Studio:

It seems very buggy! Try entering “x*y” for the 3D equation get lots of clipping problems. Try entering “tan(x) for the 2D equation – get unexpected results. Often found it would just hang. Expected that typing in a new formula would regenerate graph immediately on hitting return but found I had to re-drag the little connection things again. The JavaFX rendering looks fab but if Apple are to let Java back into the App store I expect they will need to see something more robust than this. I am very keen to JavaFX succeed. So will watch with interest. — Michael Ellis DSUK Ltd.

Thanks for your comment! Unfortunately there are known issues with clipping and 3D nodes. The 2D plotter is a simple line chart that does not detect singularities. If you’d like to see improvements don’t hesitate to add contributions to https://github.com/miho/JavaOne2013/blob/master/JavaOne2013/MathUtils/src/eu/mihosoft/vrl/javaone2013/math/MathUtil.java đŸ™‚
